About Dance Mtaani
A youth-led grassroots collective empowering young people across Nairobi through authentic street dance culture, accessible rehearsal spaces, and creative leadership incubation.
Art as a Catalyst for Youth Freedom & Dignity
Street dance in Nairobi is more than entertainment—it is a refuge, a universal language, and a powerful instrument for youth transformation. Many young people face economic precarity, lack of recreational infrastructure, and limited creative opportunities.
Dance Mtaani turns street dance culture into structured mentorship, physical conditioning, artistic discipline, and viable creative pathways for the next generation.
Our Mission
To provide accessible safe spaces, artistic training, and community mentorship that empower urban youth to express their creativity, preserve hip-hop culture, and build sustainable livelihoods.
Our Vision
An equitable ecosystem where grassroots youth have the tools, guidance, and community platforms to lead positive change through urban dance and creative leadership.
Core Values
Peace, Love, Unity & Having Fun • Cultural Authenticity • Grassroots Inclusivity • Youth Empowerment.
Born in Dandora. Powered by Community.
Dance Mtaani began in 2018 in Dandora as a grassroots collaboration between dancers and community organizers seeking positive, safe alternatives for youth in Nairobi's urban settlements.
Grounded in the core hip-hop pillars of Peace, Love, Unity, and Having Fun, what started as weekend jams has grown into an active community organization supporting young dancers through structured mentorship, physical conditioning, artistic discipline, and viable creative pathways.
Where We Train & Connect
Dance Mtaani operates from our rehearsal base in Nairobi, registered as a Community Based Organization (CBO #KBR/CBO/5/4/2019/(142)) under Kenya's Department of Social Development. Whether you want to join an open weekend cypher, partner on a youth workshop, or visit a rehearsal session, our doors are always open.
